Bluebell Class
Our class teachers are Mrs Speed and Mrs Sheppard.
Mrs Rose works with us sometimes to support our learning too.
A little bit about our Reception Class
When we start school in September, we spend time getting to know each other, our school and new routines. Our teachers spend quality time doing this so that we feel safe, secure and ready to learn.
In our class, we love books and base most of our learning around them. We use both our indoor and outdoor spaces for exploratory learning and enjoy a variety of activities. Our teachers lead some activities, including phonics, writing and maths with all of us together or in small groups. We also lead some of these activities, following our own interests. We have so much fun! Take a look below to see what we have been up to and our current learning.

Term 1 ~ Marvellous Me!
Wow! What a fantastic first term we have had in Bluebell. We have enjoyed getting to know each other, our school and classroom. We created self-portraits, really taking care to look at our features in the mirror. The texts we have explored are '10 Word Tiny Tales' by Joseph Coelho, 'The Everywhere Bear' by Julia Donaldson, 'Supertato' by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra and 'The Little Red Hen'. We used Phase 2 phonics, where we learnt to write simple CVC words linked to our texts. We followed simple instructions to make our own soup and bread rolls - the classroom smelt delicious!
We explored how the world around us has changed as we moved into Autumn. We went on a welly walk around the school grounds hunting for signs of Autumn - it was great fun! We used clay to make hedgehogs after finding one in a nest in Bluebell garden. You will be pleased to know that it was re-homed in our school conservation area, safe and sound.

Term 5 ~ Growing
This term we have enjoyed our class texts. We read 'Ruby Plants a Raddish' by Kate Petty. We planted our own bean and sunflower seeds and watched them grow. We had to water them carefully and put them in a warm place to germinate. Using another of our class text, 'The Woolly Bear Caterpillar' by Julia Donaldson, we explored types of caterpillars in the story and the life cycle of a butterfly. This has helped us develop our writing using phonics we have learnt so far. We are very proud of our writing as we have been innovating!
We had our own caterpillar eggs in class and watched them develop into beautiful butterflies. Every day we saw them change and Mrs Speed helped us to look after them. We loved being creative and carefully sketched our own butterflies and caterpillars, making sure we captured every detail possible.
Mrs Sheppard brought in lots of photos of bees that she found in her garden as they help in our gardens. We had to look carefully and add detail when we drew our own. We even made our very own 3D bees! We had to take lots of time and care.

Term 6 - Fun at the Seaside!
This term we are exploring the seaside! We have been investigating floating and sinking and made our own boats to test this out.
Keep popping back to find out more about our Pirate Day coming up soon!
