Our Governors

Welcome to the Governors of St. Mary's School

The Governors of St. Mary's are a hardworking and dedicated team who have the future of the School, Staff and Pupils uppermost in their minds. We have seen the School flourish under the expertise of a very dedicated and hardworking Head and her Teachers. We look forward to going further in the future.

Head Teacher Governor             Lorraine Wright

Staff Governor                             Eloise Sinclair

Chair of Governors                     Liz Beacon

I have two children at St Mary's - Lily in Year 3 and Tom in Year 1. I am absolutely passionate about them getting a great education. I also want them to have a really happy experience of school. So far I've been delighted with their progress. I am a local BBC journalist and am across many of the government's changes to our education system. I'm committed to doing what I can to help St Mary's be the best it can be.

Foundation Governor                 Carla Welsh (Ex-Officio) (Vice Chair)

I am fairly new to being a Governor having joined the team in 2012.  My husband and I live locally and have two boys who attend St Mary's - Alexander and Joseph.  I work for Lloyds Banking Group within the HR function and hope that I can support Mrs Wright and her team to continue to make St Mary's a fantastic school.

Foundation Governor                 Bob Sommers

After graduating from Cambridge University, I joined a manufacturing company.  Subsequently, I studied for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education at Bristol.  I taught Physics in Uganda and Botswana before taking up the post of Head of Science at Henbury School.  I was Head of Gordano School, Portishead from 1991-2003.  Currently I am a Trustee of 'Off the Record', a member of North Somerset's Foster Panel, and a Governor of Wells Cathedral School.

Parent Governor                         Craig Thomson

Foundation Parent Governor    Anneline Sheldon

I became a Foundation Parent governor in June 2013. We live in Portbury village at the Old Post Office and have 3 daughters - Sophia who joined St Mary's in 2011, Keira who joined in 2013 and Clodagh who joined in 2015. So I will be at the school gates for many years to come! I am a Chartered Accountant by trade and am a Financial Controller for an IT Consultancy company. I look forward to helping support and progress our fantastic school.

Foundation Parent Governor     Jeffrey Tan

On the completion of my PhD in Materials Engineering, I relocated to Bristol to work in aeronautical industry. The arrival of my son Freddie has given me ample opportunity as parent to think about education. I am interested in the mastery of reading and numeracy skills for children in Early Years education. I hope to make a positive difference in helping St.Mary's be a place where everyone can excel and grow at their potential, be happy and confident
